International Credit Union Day 2022
International Credit Union Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognised to reflect upon the credit union movement's history, promote its achievements, recognise hard work and share member experiences. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world.
The 74th anniversary of International Credit Union Day is Thursday, October 20, 2022. This year, we gather as a global movement under the theme:
"Empower Your Financial Future with a Credit Union."
Financial co-operatives such as credit unions, building societies and mutual banks were formed when groups of like-minded workers and communities came together to make a difference to the community.
Since its establishment in 1959 as the Public Works Department Staff Co-operative, G&C Mutual Bank has grown to become one of Australia’s strongest mutual banks, and we’re proud to be part of a movement that puts people first.
Putting people first and helping our community are central to G&C Mutual Bank’s ethos. We strive to help our members and be there for them when they need us most. We’ve stood by our members though droughts, fires, recessions, and now the hardships of COVID-19. We’re ready to help our members build a brighter future.
With a proud history of providing key financial services to state government employees and regional communities, we actively support these communities by providing special offers and sponsorships. Our relationship with NSW Ambulance spans over 20 years, most recently as proud sponsor of their employee recognition awards.
We also support the community via the Australian Mutuals Foundation (AMF). AMF supports disadvantaged Australian children and youth in partnership with Barnardos Australia. AMF also assists remote and disadvantaged communities in impoverished Southeast Asian and South Pacific countries to alleviate poverty through the creation of sustainable financial co-operatives via a partnership with the Asian Confederation of Credit Unions.
As a customer owned bank, we make responsible, ethical decisions that benefit our members and the community, and reinvest our profits to provide better products and services.
