More and more people are shopping online with an increasing variety of devices, which makes new approaches to fraud prevention essential. At G&C Mutual Bank your online security is our top priority, so we wanted to let you know about a recent upgrade to Visa 3-D Secure.
If you have a G&C Mutual Bank Visa debit or credit card, you may already be familiar with Visa 3-D Secure or Visa Secure (formerly known as Verified by Visa). When you shop online with a participating online merchant, Visa 3-D Secure may guide you through an extra check to verify your identity. This free service helps to protect you from online fraud and has recently been enhanced by Visa.
What is Visa 3-D Secure?
Visa 3-D Secure has been designed to provide you with extra peace of mind when you’re shopping online. It is a password-protected authentication system that confirms your identity as the card holder when your G&C Mutual Bank Visa debit or credit card is used online in unusual or suspicious circumstances. For example, if you’re shopping online while travelling. For more information visit Visa.
How does this affect me?
We have recently upgraded to the latest version of Visa 3-D Secure. It’s still a free service and your G&C Mutual Bank Visa card/s will be automatically pre-enrolled. The only difference you may notice is the request for a One Time Password (OTP) when you conduct an online transaction through certain merchants.
How does the process work?
When you shop online with a participating merchant and initiate a transaction that appears unusual or suspicious:
- You will be prompted to authenticate the purchase.
- Select to receive the SMS OTP and click Continue.
- The OTP will be sent to your registered mobile phone by SMS.
- Simply enter the OTP in the Enter Code field and click Submit to complete the transaction.
What if there’s an error?
The Visa 3-D Secure verification process is for your protection against unauthorised use of your debit or credit card. Therefore, if the transaction cannot be verified, it will not be approved. Should this occur, you will be prompted to contact us.
To minimise any difficulties with receiving the OTP, it is important that your contact details are correct. Please ensure we have your up-to-date mobile phone number and email address. Contact us if you require assistance.
